sql - Fastest way to perform nested bulk inserts with scope_identity() usage? -

in 1 of our (c#) applications inserting/updating large graph (100's of inserts , updates). wrapped in transaction because need entire thing rollback in case of error. using dapper execute sql statements.

unfortunately entire operation taking between 2 8 seconds. that's 2 8 seconds core tables in our database locked, causing other applications hang or suffer locks.

i determined 1 of operations, inserts table containing on 120 million records, taking of time, i'm not sure how optimize this.

roughly, table graph set follows:

table (   id int primary_key,   name nvarchar )  table b (     id int primary_key,     a_id int foreign_key, # has index     name nvarchar ) 

when inserting data a need insert corresponding data b. thus, i'm using scope_identity() id of record , use when inserting records b.

pseudo-wise looks follows:

when googling this, 1 of solutions wrap in transaction. don't know performance because wrapped in parent transaction. solve issue?

a second solution given inserting records using union select..., don't know if use scope_identity() in call.

how can improve particular case? other things can speed operation or prevent other applications suffer these locks?

inserts data 2 related table i've used single stored procedure , sql tricks table valued parameters, merge , output clause.
here sample script:

first, create sample tables: tblbase , tblrelated linked 1 many foreign key.
