javascript - HTML hide full url from URL bar -


ive seen on https://forum.en.forgeofempires.com/index.php can't figure out.

basically full url http://domain.com/index.php?members/name/

however in url bar shows http://domain.com/index.php

if put curser on url bar - displays full url. if take cursor away, shrinks http://domain.com/index.php

just wondering

a) use - useful ? (apart visual benefit, dont see other uses)

b) technique called - can & maybe research how (i guess javascript??)

this has nothing page--it browser , only browser can change url displayed as.

i know fact safari url shortening, , can change in safari preferences (command + ,).
